C. Richard Epes, MD is a no stitch cataract and lens implant surgery specialist who founded the Southeastern Eye Center in 1984, following 10 years of practice in Greensboro, North Carolina.  The Eye Center was founded under the premise of patients being able to “Trust Your Eyes to Experience”.

Dr. Epes received his medical degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1968.  After serving two years in the United States Navy, he entered his ophthalmology residency at Duke University Eye Center that he completed in November 1974.  Since that time he has spent his entire professional career striving to insure that the people of North Carolina have the finest available eye care.

Dr. Epes is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, as well as the American Board of Eye Surgery.  He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as the International College of Surgeons.

Dr. Epes was chosen by his colleagues to be featured in the Best Doctors in America and was also selected as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists by Consumer’s Research Council of America.

Dr. Epes has been on the faculty of numerous conferences and courses on cataract and lens implant surgery.  He currently performs approximately 450 cataract extractions with lens implantations per month and has performed over 100,000 such procedures in his career.

John T. Harriott, M.D.

Retina and Vitreous

John T. Harriott, MD is a specialist of medical and surgical disorders of the retina and vitreous.  He has been in practice at the Southeastern Eye Center since 1993.  He and his wife, Angela, have three children and reside in Winston-Salem.

Dr. Harriott received his Undergraduate Degree in Engineering from Cornell University in 1979.  He attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine and obtained his Medical Degree in 1983.  He completed a three-year Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a National Institute of Health Research Fellow from 1987 through 1989.  His Residency in Ophthalmology was at The State University of New York at Syracuse from 1989 through 1992.  After completion of a twelve month Vitreoretinal Fellowship at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, Dr. Harriott joined the Southeastern Eye Center in July of 1993.  He has performed research, published, and has presented at local and national meetings.

Dr. Harriott has certification by the respective American Boards in Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Ophthalmology.  His memberships include American Medical Association, North Carolina Medical Society, and American Academy of Ophthalmology.
